SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED FOR 2018

Stevie Rachelle Lopez, 2018 graduate of Hemphill High School was awarded a $500 scholarship by the Methodist Women.  As part of her scholarship Stevie received a Bible inscribed with her name at the June 3 Worship Service.

We are proud to contribute to this community each year by awarding scholarships to two deserving seniors for use their freshmen year regardless of their membership in this church.

Stevie Rachelle Lopez received a $500 scholarship for her studies at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she plans to major in Nursing, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree.  Stevie’s decision to pursue a challenging career in nursing stems from her desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others and shapes her future plans.

Academically strong, Stevie is also characterized by her ability to prioritize and focus on tasks.  Stevie was a member of the Leo Club, Family Career & Community Leaders of America, serving as its Vice-President, and belonged to the Garden Club serving as secretary.  A member of the National Honor Society as its secretary, she also was a member of the National Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and yearbook staff.  Stevie was a Varsity Cheerleader two years, co-captain one year; she was a Senior Duchess for Homecoming, and worked at a local restaurant prior to her current job at Brookshire Brothers.

She finished 6th in her class, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 96.84, including several duel credit courses accumulating fourteen college credit hours earning a 4.0 college GPA toward her freshman requirements.

Stevie is the niece of special uncle, Timothy Ebarb of Hemphill, and daughter of Tammie and Darrell Lopez.

Lexie Grace Moody, 2018 graduate of Hemphill High School was awarded a $500 scholarship by the United Methodist Women.  As part of her scholarship Lexie received a Bible inscribed with her name at the June 3 Worship Service.

Our second recipient, Lexie Grace Moody is the daughter of Jennifer and Chad Moody of Hemphill.

Lexie intends to major in general business / accounting at Panola Community College in Carthage, Texas.  Her plans include a series of goals, beginning with a two year program at Panola, transitioning to The University of North Texas at Denton, Texas where she expects to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in General Business / Accounting. Following this accomplishment, Lexie intends to obtain a Master’s Degree in Forensic Accounting.  Her plans include becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), then possibly pursuing a career in Forensic Accounting to feed her passion for justice and to make the world a better place.

Lexie participated in athletics and extracurricular activities helping to develop her unique character.  A member of Family Career and Community Leaders of America, she served the community in a number of instances.  Participating each year in the Sabine County Livestock Show – Food Division – Lexie claimed several Grand Champion Awards and trophies for her baking – cakes and cookies divisions.  She participated in volleyball, cross country, track, and powerlifting, advancing to regionals in several areas each year and advancing past district and regional competitions, most notably in powerlifting where Lexie was also named to the First Team Academic All-State Powerlifting Team. Lexie also has public service credentials for numerous undertakings aside from school related activities.

Lexie was a member of the National Honor Society, HISD Honor Roll, a yearbook staff member, and in the top 10% of her class.  She currently has twenty college credit hours with a 3.5 college GPA to begin her freshman year.   Lexie finished 5th in her class of 59, maintained a 97.57 high school GPA and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Both of these young women have demonstrated diligence, perseverance, and a fierce work ethic that will ensure success as they go forward with their studies and their life goals.  The Methodist Women congratulate Stevie and Lexie, lift them in prayer, and pray God’s blessing upon them.
