1st / 2nd grade class finishing sun catchers in Craft class. Crafts are an important part of VBS, one of the favorite classes for the kids. They decorated visors, made friendship plaques, strung together friendship bracelets, and many other items.
As part of learning about neighbors around the world, our “neighbors” sampled foods similar to those found in the five individual countries. Friday was Mexico Day and “Welcome Quesadillas” were enjoyed with salsa along with a fresh fruit icy pop. Miss Shirley and her helpers fixed terrific snacks all week.
Over 40 parents/ guests came for the Closing Assembly Friday. UMM fixed a carnival-style lunch for our VBS kids, their guests, and the VBS staff. All enjoyed hot dogs, chili, chips, popcorn, and pink lemonade.
VBS music played as some classes waited for others to enter the Fellowship Hall. Without the video images and without the leaders, some of the children moved to the music. Receiving a CD of the music on Monday, most knew the lyrics to the songs and enjoyed moving to the beat. Mothers commented they knew some of the lyrics as the take-home CDs were played all week.
Health kits were on display at the Closing Assembly. Learning about being good neighbors… who are friendly, giving, bold, forgiving, and welcoming, our VBS neighbors brought items to contribute to UMCOR Health Kits. 43 kits were completed and will be sent to aid the victims of the Oklahoma tornados, and other storms and flooding in the mid-west.
The VBS staff and helpers express their love and appreciation to the FUMC congregation for their support and prayers prior to and during VBS week.

After a wonderful opening day with 35 VBS “neighbors,” our numbers increased on day two when eight additional neighbors came for the first time swelling our total attendees to 43. Yea for Everywhere Fun Fair VBS!!!
The newest addition to VBS is a 3-year old self-contained class. Shown here enjoying play time on the portico with sidewalk chalk. They also enjoy having a Bible Story read by Pastor Karen and music by Tommye Sue Carlson, accompanied by guitarist, Mart Gooch, among other things.
Games of past generations are still enjoyed by our VBS neighbors. Laughing and enjoying a game of chase with variations makes the friendtastic guide (teacher), Nicole Corley , smile at their antics. Instructions being given by Arlie Broadaway
The 3rd/4th grade class and some of the Youth Helpers enjoyed a fast-paced relay race.
In our Bible story today, neighbors met a widow who gave food to Elijah, God’s servant. She gave all the oil and flour she had to feed him, trusting that God would take care of her and her son. The neighbors (children) listened intently to the story while the actors portrayed the story without speaking.

Abraham, Sarah, and three weary travelers – after the Bible Bazaar re-enactment at VBS Monday, June 17th. The story of Abraham and Sara was narrated while the actors/actress acted out the story for the children showing that “Neighbors are friendly.”
Getting ready for the closing assembly, 35 neighbors await the appearance of Godwin Merrifeather, world traveler. Neighbors learned about being friendly as Abraham & Sarah were in Old Testament times, when they welcomed weary travelers

It’s almost time for VBS and EVERYWHERE FUN FAIR: Where God’s World Comes Together. Volunteers have been busy at work transforming the Fellowship Hall into an international street fair highlighting five countries our VBS “neighbors” will visit (in learning) this week. Sunday school rooms have a different look and feel as well – everywhere you look there is evidence of excitement and fun traveling the world and entertaining “our neighbors,” learning about God’s love for all.
