VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – 2014

March 31, 2014

Our VBS theme this year is Workshop of Wonders, “You are the God who works wonders.” Psalm 77:14a. With God, we can experience wonder all around us; whatever we bring, God uses. So mark your calendars! Our Vacation Bible School will be held Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your grandchildren to visit you. Call your children and share the dates; plan for your grandkids to participate in VBS. Tell your neighbors, VBS is for everyone! There will be classes for children ages 3 through those going into grade six. Teenagers are most welcome as helpers.

There are a myriad of ways for everyone to be involved!

1) Pray. Pray now that volunteers continue to come forward. Pray for children to come. Pray that we fulfill the opportunity to minister to the children.

2) Volunteer. Volunteer to help with creating decorations, providing supplies, preparing materials, taking photos, providing snacks/ snack ingredients, and of course, working with the children as a teacher, or teacher’s helper. There are many ways not listed that you can volunteer.

3) Contribute. Contribute with your prayers, your gifts, and your service.

Contact Gloria Foster, Karen Jones, or the church office today to share your gifts and talents for Vacation Bible School, 2014.

WHAT IF YOU WERE KIND TO YOURSELF TODAY?

March 9, 2014

What if you looked in the mirror and smiled?
Instead of counted gray hairs and wrinkles.

What if you read a love letter today?
One written to you. A thousand years ago.
God told them, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!
What if you believed it?

What if you counted the number of times God says that He is with you? With you. Not sometimes, not when you’ve got it all together. Not when you’ve lost that weight, succeeded at that job, tamed that child.
Just with you. Period. (280 times!!)

What if you remembered and were kind to yourself – because you are a child of God?
Beautiful, called, named, beloved.

-Devotional excerpt by Lisa-Jo from (in)courage.

We all know the best place to eat is at FUMC... visit us on 2nd Sunday or Game Night or any of our luncheons and you'll agree!

THE GREAT METHODIST SWAP

March 3, 2014

Have you ever done the Methodist Swap? That’s what one loyal husband called the UMW Rummage and Bake Sale. His idea is that the good Methodist women of FUMC scour their homes and garages and (his) storage shed, and come up with all manner of things to get rid of (especially from the storage shed!).

Magically these items appear at the fellowship hall, the boxes are unpacked, and WOW, some other Methodist woman has been searching high and low for the very item that was in that box. And the item is paid for and goes home to a NEW Methodist home and hence the name, “The Methodist Swap.”

Cute story! And while some of that may actually happen… most of the items end up being taken up by members of the community who are in need of, or desire them. Regardless of where the rummage ends up, it’s out of someone’s home, or garage, or storage shed and that’s a great feeling – having done some sprucing up.

The really great thing is that money is generated to support the many projects and mission events that UMW helps support. Money is given locally to the United Christian Center, School Supplies, Empty Stocking, HISD Education Foundation, Teacher Luncheon, Grad Night, Senior Luncheon, Scholarships, Methodist Children’s Home, Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets. Additionally, funds to support Shelters for abused women, children and youth and many other missions that serve women and children nationally, and globally may result from this fund raising event.

Your donations to this sale may be taken to the fellowship hall any time this week, from Monday, March 3 at 10 a.m. until Thursday mid-day. The sale starts on Friday, March 7 at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday, March 8 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Pssst.. don’t forget the Bake Sale going on at the same time. Great yummy treats are going to be on stage, literally!

So be sure to plan to participate in this year’s Great Methodist Swap! See you there!
