“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”
Our very existence is dependent on the Lord. He supplies everything we need physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures;”
He gives me rest and provides for my sustenance.
“He leads me beside quiet waters.”
He provides peace even in times of trial and turmoil, and He quenches my thirst.
“He restoreth my soul.”
When I am drained he refills me spiritually.
“He leads me on the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.”
I, like sheep, am tempted to take treacherous paths and go out in directions that I should not venture. He directs me and leads me on the safe path that He has set before me. I am His child and bear His name, therefore the paths I take, the choices I make, reflect on Him, on His name.
“And even though I walk through the valley of the shadow and death, I will fear no evil for Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.”
I am continually in the midst of danger and evil in this world and death overshadows this life, but the Lord has overcome death and the evil one. His power, His leading, His protection, His love, are what I trust and find comfort in.
“He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”
Through the Spirit, He provides good fruits for me: Love, Faith, Hope, Joy Peace, Patience, Balance, Goodness, Gentleness…
These fruits nourish and strengthen me, and my enemies, (Fear, Doubt, Self-righteousness, Arrogance, Jealousy), do not overcome me.
“He anoints my head with oil.”
My Lord and Shepherd heals me and marks me as His own.
“My cup overflows.”
I have an abundance of every good thing in my life.
“Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life…”
Through all the events in my life, good, bad, and terrible, my Shepherd places people and blessings in my path to carry me through. My family, friends, and brethren have been there to help, to encourage, to love, and assure me even in my darkest hours. The beauty and simplicity of the Lord’s creation surround me with awe and thankfulness.
“And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever”
The Lord’s promise that I will dwell with Him in His house forever.
