“Unstoppable” . . . VBS continues

June 16, 2015

Day two was a super day. The children explored how to act for God, following the examples of Solomon and the workers and sang great songs including “Unstoppable.”

A CD containing eight songs with movements was given to each family Monday. This CD-Rom is loaded with games that reinforce what we learn at G-Force for continued all-summer fun.

G-Force is all about moving and acting for God. Sometimes, we might need to act in new and surprising ways to help others and show the love of Jesus to them.

Share your fun and love of Jesus with friends and neighbors. MOVE and ACTinvite them to come to VBS too. It is never too late to come, so bring a friend tomorrow.

Checkers the Cheetah (a friendly puppet) will be with us every day to help us grow in our faith.

Checkers the Cheetah (a friendly puppet) will be with us every day to help us grow in our faith.

Remember God wants us to MOVE & ACT!

So “Let’s GO!”

An Invitation for Friday

June 16, 2015

Welcome to VBS at Hemphill First United Methodist Church. It was a fabulous first day at our G-Force Adventure Park.

Today we learned new songs with high energy and fast moving actions. Neat crafts got underway; we learned about Moses and had fun playing games.

A short Closing Celebration is being planned for Friday, June 19 at 11:40 A.M. We invite you to have lunch with your child and the VBS staff and enjoy a short recap of the week’s activities. The children will sing a few selected songs and everyone should enjoy the antics of Checkers, the Cheetah who promises to entertain us this week. We hope you will be able to attend.

Thank you for sharing your child with us today; tomorrow is going to be even better!

Mission Project for G-Force

June 15, 2015

VBS MISSION PROJECT

Recently Texas has experienced massive flooding in many parts of the state. One of the first organizations to be on the scene helping those affected was UMCOR. (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Because of this great need, UMCOR has requested health or hygiene kits be sent to help in Texas and Oklahoma especially. Our Mission in Motion project is to donate “spare parts” for Health Kits; these kits help provide care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. Kits also help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies. They make a real difference in people’s lives.

We will be collecting the parts of the health kit, rather than focusing on completing the entire kit. The “spare parts” will be combined with other “spare parts” from all over the country and Health Kits created and rushed to the areas impacted by recent disasters. The spare parts will be sent to UMCOR for distribution to the needy in Texas and Oklahoma recently hit by tornados and devastating storms and floods.

Each child is encouraged to furnish at least one new item as listed below.

  • 1 hand towel 15” x 25” to 17”x 27”

Kitchen, cleaning and microfiber towels are not acceptable.

  • metal nail files or nail clippers

No emery boards or toenail clippers please.

  • combs

Comb needs to be sturdy; no pocket combs or picks please.

Rattail combs and combs without handles are acceptable.

  • toothbrushes

Adult size only – Must be individually wrapped.

Do not remove from original packaging.

  • bath-size soap

3 oz. and larger sizes only;

No Ivory or Jergens soap due to moisture content;

Do not remove from original packaging.

  • wash cloths

  • 6 adhesive bandages

¾ inch to 1 inch-size;

Common household Band-Aids.

  • $1.00 – to purchase toothpaste. Toothpaste must be purchased when the kits are shipped to the disaster areas to assure it is not past the expiration date.
  • $1.00 – to help defray the cost of shipping

  • Important Notes:
  • All items must be new.
  • Do not wash any of the items as they will be considered used.
  • All items may be purchased at the local Dollar Stores.
  • Bring items any day this week, spare parts will packed Friday and prepared for shipping to UMCOR with a designation to be used in Texas and Oklahoma for flood and storm victims.

It is the hope of the VBS Staff that our children recognize the needs of others and their own potential for helping. The needs are physical (the needed items in the Health Kit) and emotional (help & friendship from strangers) and allow the children to “let’s go,” Let’s Move, Act, Care, Follow, and Share, and live out our Bible Verse from Acts 17:28a.

“In God we live, move, and exist.
