Saturday, March 19 saw the UMW women of Hemphill FUMC exhibit their trademark hospitality as they hosted the East District United Methodist Women. Women came from distances as far as Trinity and Crockett to the west, Jasper and Livingston to the south, Cartage and Shelbyville to the north to congregate and share in the Spring Spiritual Growth gathering.
Registration Table as some guests sign in and others meet and visit while waiting.
Registration began at 9:30 but guests began arriving at 8:30 to set up their special areas of the morning. FUMC ladies prepared muffins, tea breads, fruit and cheese with juices and coffee for a midmorning snack.
Following the opening prayers and hymns, the presentations of certificates were made for the UMW Reading Program, Blue Ribbon Units and Five Star Treasurers. District President Carolie Wakefield from Crockett and Past District President Bobbie Ledbetter from Trinity presented the “In Remembrance” service honoring members who have passed in the preceding year. Candles were lit for Bobbie Clark and Audy Harper from this unit.
Bobbie Ledbetter presented the Spiritual Growth Program. The program involved everyone, encouraging a tactile and sensory experience of the Easter Story.
