Paula Arlena Philpott, 2014 graduate of Hemphill High School was awarded a $500 scholarship by the United Methodist Women. On Sunday, June 29, Paula also received a Bible inscribed with her name as she was introduced to the congregation.
Active in softball and volleyball, Paula also found time to be a basketball manager as well as manager of the cheer squad. Feeling protective of those less fortunate, she worked to deliver food packs for the Back Pack Program in the lower grades at Hemphill Elementary. She participated in art contests and was a member of the Leo Club, a service club sponsored by the local Lions Club, to promote service activities among the youth of the community.
Paula graduated Cum Laude, ranking 18th in her class with a 3.32 GPA. After enjoying her family this summer, she will begin her freshman year at the Lamar Institute of Technology with 6 college hours having earned a 4.0 average. Paula intends to pursue a career as a dental hygienist with an eye to perhaps becoming an orthodontist in the future.
Paula is the daughter of Cody Timmons & Katrina Watler of Hemphill. The United Methodist Women congratulate Paula, lift her in prayer, and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.
