“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:4-8 (KJV)
At 54 years of age, I’ve lived long enough to experience some of the high mountaintops and deep dark valleys of life. Rejoicing and giving thanks always, no matter my circumstances, was a hard concept to understand, much less live, when I was younger. But as my journey through a life in faith continues, I am coming to a better understanding and appreciation of these words of encouragement, written by the Apostle Paul, in Philippians.
Today these words remind me that though my life’s circumstances are continually changing—-God’s love is steadfast, and He is the maker and giver of all good things. Truth, purity, virtue, justice, loveliness, etc. prevail and for that I can be thankful, and live my life in joy and peace.
Thanks be to God!
