1st / 2nd grade class finishing sun catchers in Craft class. Crafts are an important part of VBS, one of the favorite classes for the kids. They decorated visors, made friendship plaques, strung together friendship bracelets, and many other items.
As part of learning about neighbors around the world, our “neighbors” sampled foods similar to those found in the five individual countries. Friday was Mexico Day and “Welcome Quesadillas” were enjoyed with salsa along with a fresh fruit icy pop. Miss Shirley and her helpers fixed terrific snacks all week.
Over 40 parents/ guests came for the Closing Assembly Friday. UMM fixed a carnival-style lunch for our VBS kids, their guests, and the VBS staff. All enjoyed hot dogs, chili, chips, popcorn, and pink lemonade.
VBS music played as some classes waited for others to enter the Fellowship Hall. Without the video images and without the leaders, some of the children moved to the music. Receiving a CD of the music on Monday, most knew the lyrics to the songs and enjoyed moving to the beat. Mothers commented they knew some of the lyrics as the take-home CDs were played all week.
Health kits were on display at the Closing Assembly. Learning about being good neighbors… who are friendly, giving, bold, forgiving, and welcoming, our VBS neighbors brought items to contribute to UMCOR Health Kits. 43 kits were completed and will be sent to aid the victims of the Oklahoma tornados, and other storms and flooding in the mid-west.
The VBS staff and helpers express their love and appreciation to the FUMC congregation for their support and prayers prior to and during VBS week.
